What Is Manufactured Stone?

Manufactured stone is a material used in commercial facades that’s made of concrete and various aggregate materials which are then molded into specific shapes and colors. The effect is to mimic the look and texture of natural stone.

The manufacturing process involves mixing cement, aggregates, and pigments into molds and creating stone-like shapes with realistic textures. This method allows for a great deal of customization in commercial masonry projects.

Manufactured Stone Vs Natural Stone: Pros & Cons

Manufactured stone offers certain advantages over natural stone. It’s lighter, easier to install, and more cost-effective. This allows for greater design flexibility and a wider range of colors and patterns in commercial designs. However, manufactured stone may be more prone to fading and chipping over time, if durability is a concern.

Natural stone offers a more enduring and authenticate option but comes with higher material and labor costs.

Stucco / EIFS Installation

Stucco and Exterior Insulation and Finish System (EIFS) are two of the most popular cladding options in commercial masonry construction. Both systems offer distinct advantages and involve different installation processes.

Stucco vs EIFS: What’s The Difference?

Stucco is a traditional cement-based mixture applied over a metal mesh, and is widely prized for its resilience and resistance to fire.

EIFS, often called synthetic stucco, uses polystyrene foam board, fiberglass mesh, and a finishing coat. Insulation is improved with this method and it also offers more flexibility than traditional stucco but these advantages comes at a higher cost due to its more complex construction.

Stucco / EIFS Installation Process

Stucco installation involves applying layers of cement mixture over a metal lath (mesh), typically in one or three coats.

EIFS installation is more complex, involving the application of a foam insulation board, a base coat with reinforcing mesh, and then also a finishing coat.

Both processes require the talent’s of a skilled craftsman to ensure proper adhesion, weatherproofing, and a smooth finish.
