Why Build Retaining Walls?

1. Prevent Erosion

Retaining walls hold back soil and prevent it from washing away during Dallas’s heavy seasonal rains.

2. Stabilize Slopes

If your property has sloping terrain, a retaining wall provides stability. Without proper support, these slopes can shift and slide, especially after storms.

3. Improve Drainage

Retaining walls can be engineered with built-in drainage systems that direct water away from your foundation to prevent waterlogging.

4. Beautiful Landscaping

Transform your outdoor space with tiered gardens and defined outdoor rooms using custom retaining walls.

5. Add Property Value

A well-designed retaining wall  significantly boosts your Dallas home’s curb appeal and market value.

Best Retaining Wall Materials

Poured Concrete

For maximum durability, poured concrete retaining walls can’t be beat. They’re perfect for modern Dallas homes and can be stamped, stained, or veneered to match your property’s style.

Interlocking Concrete Blocks

DIY-friendly interlocking concrete blocks sit on crushed-stone footings without mortar using mesh anchors to secure against the soil.

Brick Veneer

Brick veneer walls are a classy and attractive option that fits most brick-heavy neighborhoods in DFW. They provide a seamless transition between your outdoor spaces and the aesthetic of your home and come in many colors and textures.

Natural Stone / Stone Veneer

Stone retaining walls create a timeless, elegant look that complements many Dallas homes. To reduce costs, consider using natural stone veneer over a concrete base and you’ll get the same stunning appearance with a lower investment.

Our Retaining Wall Construction Process

Planning and Preparation

Our team first evaluates your soil space and drainage requirements. Then we mark out the wall‘s exact position.

Excavation and Foundation

We dig a trench approximately 2 feet back from the marked line, creating enough space for a proper base.

Base Layer Installation

We add 2 inches of stone dust or crushed gravel to create a solid foundation, then meticulously level and tamp it down.

Building the Wall

With the foundation secure, we build your wall course by course using your chosen materials: natural stone, brick, or concrete blocks, backfilling with crushed stone to improve drainage and stability.

Frequently Asked Questions

Brick repair keeps buildings and outdoor spaces both sturdy and attractive. Let’s tackle the top questions homeowners have about maintaining masonry so you can spot issues early and avoid costly fixes down the road.

What is the purpose of a retaining wall?

Retaining walls create level areas on sloping land, turning unusable spaces into functional outdoor living areas. They prevent soil erosion during heavy downpours and provide support to natural slopes.

How long do retaining walls last?

A properly constructed retaining wall can last for decades with the right care. The lifespan largely depends on the materials used and the quality of installationNatural stone walls typically last 40+ years, while brick and concrete block walls perform well for 20-30 years.

Do I need a permit to build a retaining wall?

In Dallas, permit requirements for retaining walls depend on the wall‘s height and location. Walls over 4 feet tall typically require permits and professional retaining wall contractors.

What are the signs my retaining wall needs repair?

Watch for visible cracks or bulges, walls that lean forward, water drainage issues or stone units, or concrete crumbling at certain points. Uneven settlement at the base of the wall or vegetation growing in cracks are also warning signs.

What drainage systems are needed for a retaining wall?

Retaining walls should be  backfilled with clean, coarse gravel behind the wall to promote water flow. Drainage pipes placed at the wall‘s base help channel water away, but for taller walls, French drains and dedicated drainage channels may be necessary.
